Our growth has been tremendous. We moved into these offices only 2 and a half months ago. We've had an explosion of growth including the addition of 79 new titles to the list of books in just the last month and a half. We can easily say this is the largest collection of books and magazines surrounding the subject of the lives of lesbians, gay men bisexuals and others between Minnesota and Washington State in the northern tier of the country. The South Dakota Alternative Library has nearly 1000 books, 5000 magazines and newspapers and electronic files of information ready for use by researchers, students, and interested people from all walks of life. FACES also publishes a newsletter that is read by nearly 1200 people throughout South Dakota and the nation who have an interest in the activities of the gay community in the State of South Dakota. A complete searchable listing of the library books in the library are also available on the internet via the FACES webpages along with other information and a calendar of events for the State of South Dakota. The library is officially open Tuesdays from 7 pm until 10 pm, Saturdays from 1:30 PM to 5 PM and other times as volunteers may be in the offices. FACES of South Dakota, Inc. has existed since October 1995. FACES operates the first library and safe space in the State of South Dakota providing information for bisexuals, gay men, lesbians, transgendered persons and people of two spirits. It is a non-profit 501c3 organization meaning donations are tax deductible. Permission for use of the photos for any other purpose must first be obtained by contacting FACES of South Dakota, Inc.
