     Delta Lambda Phi National Social Fraternity is
organized as a nonprofit corporation under District of
Columbia Law, bearing both federal and District tax
exemptions.
     The fraternity's purpose, but not limited to, is to
enhance the quality of life among progressive men,
irrespective of sexual preference by providing dignified
and purposeful social and recreational activities.
     Delta Lambda Phi has a unique history when viewed
against other fraternities.  Most national fraternities
are formed by several chapters starting across the United
States and then later forming to make a national
federation or association.  Delta Lambda Phi was founded
in the exact opposite manner.  The fraternity was first
founded as a national corporation.  After that point,
chapters were initiated.
     In October of 1986, three elderly gentlemen
established a trust for the creation of a college
fraternity that would not discriminate on the basis of
sexual preference.  These donors expressed regret that
alternative social organizations had not been available
during their formative years.
     The administrator of the trust was Vernon
Strickland.
     It was during the first part of 1987 that the first
pledge class completed their initiation process.  After
which the first chapter of Delta Lambda Phi was created. 
This chapter is known as the Alpha Chapter, located in
Washington, DC.
