THE CAMPAIGN FOR MILITARY SERVICE *** A C T I O N * A L E R T *** More phone calls needed to counteract opposition efforts! If you called already, call again -- they are! The following is a selection from a full page ad which the Concerned Women for America ran in USA Today on Friday, April 9. Please scan, especially the last two paragraphs of the body! ------ begin excerpt ------ "I believe the policy we have is consistent with the necessary standards of order and discipline required in the Armed Forces." (Colin Powell) You can join thousands of other concerned Americans and take a stand on this important issue. Make your opinion count! Let your U.S. Senators and U.S. representatives know you want them to uphold the current U.S. Uniform Code of Military Justice which prohibits openly practicing homosexuals from service in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. The president must not be allowed to usurp the power of Congress to establish laws governing our U.S. Armed Forces. The military has a unique code of justice, training, honor, and behavior. For 214 years, the Armed Forces have judged homosexual activity as destructive to military discipline, morale, unit cohesion, and effectiveness. Defense experts cite a recent study in the Annals of Internal Medicine which shows homosexual behavior to be promiscuous, compulsive, and uncontrollable -- traits directly counter to military life. Shockingly, the typical homosexual has at least 68 sex partners _per_year_ and over 1,160 _lifetime_ sex partners. The study also shows that homosexuals have alarmingly high rates of AIDS, hepatitis A and B, syphilis, gonorrhea, and tuberculosis. In the close living and training environments of military life, these extremely infectious and deadly diseases could endanger the lives of many of our nation's military personnel. Here's what other respected leaders say concerning President Clinton's proposed lifting of the military's current ban on homosexuals in the Armed Forces: [Quotations from Gen. Colin Powell, Sen. Sam Nunn, Cong. Bob Dornan, Gen. Carl E. Mundy (Marine Corps Commandant), and Sen. Bob Dole deleted to save space. These are not our friends.] --------------- end excerpt -------------- Concerned Women for America claims a membership of 600,000. That's a *lot* of phone calls!
