In light of the current national political agenda affecting Black Lesbians, Gays and their families, we find it necessary to take immediate actions to protect our communities across the country. The urgency of national and local agendas have fostered a climate where a Summit is in order to educate and organize ourselves around the issues impacting Lesbians and Gays of African descent. The Black Lesbian and Gay Leadership Summit: Our Families, Our Communities, Our Lives, to be held on February 17-19, 1995 at the Los Angeles Airport Hilton and Towers will replace the Eighth Annual National Black Lesbian and Gay Conference and Institutes. This Summit, the largest gathering of its kind, will draw national and international participants from as far away as South Africa. The Summitt Schedule will include the following working sessions: Friday, February 17th, 1995 - Aids/Health Care Symposium. A day long combination of intensive workshops with topics relative to HIV, AIDS, cancer and other chronic illnesses. Discussion sessions will center on education/prevention, public policy and resources, as well as the social, political and economic ramifications for Black Lesbians and Gays of African descent. Saturday, February 18, 1995 - Public Policy Symposium. A day-long combination of workshop sessions and caucusing designed to educate and empower Black Lesbians and Gay men. Discussions will center on educaton around local and national public policies and the impact of the November elections and Congressional changes. Saturday, February 18, 1995 - 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Awards Banquet, honoring Bill T. Jones (James Baldwin Award) Gay Collete Jackson (Audre Lorde Award), Mandy Carter (Bayard Rustin Award), Robert E. Sunday, February 19, 1995 - Skills Building & Strategy Session. Workshop sessions will develop community organizing, education and outreach strategies for participants to take back to their local communities. This session will culminate in the development of a "Working Position Paper."
