Bowles, who had confessed to killing six men after his arrest last month in Jacksonville Beach, entered a plea of not guilty in the slaying of Walter Hinton of Jacksonville, according to reports on WJXT-TV Channel 4 and WTLV-TV Channel 12. Both Channel 4 and Channel 12 broadcast interviews with Hinton's mother and sister, who said they had hoped Bowles would enter a guilty plea in order to provide a quick resolution to the proceedings. A member of the Public Defender's office told Channel 4 that "these cases take time" regardless of the defendant's plea. Hinton's sister told Channel 4 that, when she saw Bowles in the courtroom, "it took everything to hold me back from going after him." Hinton's mother told Channel 4 that "it was difficult to see him [Bowles] face to face," and she told Channel 12 that she hopes Bowles gets the death penalty -- "I never thought I would," his mother said, and added that she hoped Bowles is executed "not only for my son but all the others he had killed." Hinton's mother told Channel 12 that Bowles had been an overnight guest in her home while he was seeing her son. Channel 4 reported that all of Bowles victims were gay men. No trial date has been set for Bowles, though another hearing is scheduled in January. Bowles is a suspect in the deaths of David Jarman, 39, of Wheaton, Md.; Milton Bradley, 72, of Savannah; Alverson Carter Jr., 47, of Atlanta; Albert Alcie Morris, 37, of Hilliard, Fla.; and John Hardy Roberts of Daytona Beach.
