     A 1974 cross-cultural study of male homosexuality in the
United States, Holland, and Denmark found that 36% of homosexual
individuals studied (depending on the country) had had heterosexual
intercourse.

     Two studies of lesbians from 1978 and 1989 found that 81% and
74% of those surveyed had engaged in heterosexual intercourse.

     In a 1985 study of bisexual women who were or had been married
at the time of the survey:
     *    47% were "somewhat aware" of their same-sex feelings
          before they were married
     *    89% expressed sexual difficulties in their marriages
     *    56% had had homosexual experiences during their marriages
          (24% of the husbands of those women knew about their
          relationships; 9% of the husbands approved)
     *    20% tried to eliminate their homosexual feelings

     In a 1985 study of couples in which the husband is bisexual
and the wife is aware of it:

     *    The average length of the marriage was 13 years
     *    69% of the males were aware of their homosexual feelings
          when they married
     *    40% of the couples said the husband's homosexual behavior
          was known initially in the marriage
     *    85% of the males and 76% of the females indicated they
          expected their marriage would be sexually open in the
          future
     *    76% of the males and 78% of the females described their
          marriages as "outstanding" or "better than average"

In a 1993 survey of self-identified bisexual men:
     *    52% had both male and female partners within the past 6
          months
     *    3% belonged to lesbian and gay organizations
     *    81% had read lesbian and gay papers or magazines
     *    28% had attended local lesbian and gay pride parades
     *    72% of their female spouses/lovers and 60-74% of family
          members knew nothing about their bisexuality
