Date: Tue, 21 Nov 1995 10:38:56 -0500 From: Jean Noble PLEASE FORWARD THIS CALL FOR PAPERS AS APPROPRIATE. MANY THANKS. Canadian Lesbian and Gay Studies Association Call for Papers Third Annual Conference Brock University at St. Catherines, Ontario June 2 & 3, 1996 The conference of the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Studies Association will take place at the Learned Societies Conference at Brock University in St Catherines. As an interdisciplinary association, we encourage the submission of papers/ panels in the humanities and social sciences as well as community based organizations/researchers/activists. We invite papers in any aspect of lesbian, gay, queer, transgender, transsexual intersex, and bisexual studies. Specifically we encourage panels/papers which address diversity within any of the following themes: Two Spirited People, Racism and Lesbian/Gay Studies, Fighting the Right, AIDS and HIV, Trans- genderism/transsexualism, Class Issues and Sexuality, Politics in Visual Arts, Desire and Expressions of the Body, Sex Radicals and Sexual Practices. However, any topics beyond these themes are welcome. We want papers that explore the day-to-day experiences of lesbians/gays/queers, in Canada or North America as well as in other developing countries i.e.: Africa, China, Caribbean. Our hope is that we can provide a forum to portray the realities of our experiences as integral to, rather than outside of the mainstream gay and lesbian communities. We are therefore particularily interested in papers that explore issues where race, class, gender, sexuality, colonization and sexual orientation intersect. Papers may be in English or French and can range from 10 to 15 pages, but should not exceed 20 minutes in presentation time. We welcome submissions from anyone wishing to assemble a panel on a particular topic. Abstracts from each panel member should be submitted with the proposal. We will consider proposals for sessions not centered on papers: discussion or roundtable. Please submit 150-250 word abstracts by December 15, 1995 to: Monica Kendel Department of Sociology Box 3050 MS 7572 University of Victoria Victoria, B.C.
