Here is some information about videotapes that an Organization I work with produced in the last couple years. From their brochure avaiable by calling 1-800-633-7445 or by writing to the address below. AIDS or Eighty-Something? is designed to impress on teens that they are indeed vulnerable to AIDS, but that they can lead normal, healthy lives if they understand precisely how the HIV virus is and is not communicated. The issues are discussed frankly, so teens can decide how they want to live and make those decisions based on facts. Bronze Award; International Film and TV Festival of New York Gold Award; Corporation of Public Broadcasting (This title is used in my Church's resource library for high school and adult groups.) Changing Focus: Women, Children and AIDS examines the unique problems of women with AIDS, in which inadequate healthcare, poverty and misdiagnosis contribute to the often overwhelming problems of women, who also have children to care for, living with AIDS. In addition, 30% to 50% of the babies born to HIV positive women will develop AIDS, contributing to the tragedy of boarder babies. Honorable Mention; American Women in Radio and Television International Women's Day Video Festival National Satillite-Cast Bronze Medal; Worldfest, Houston Blue Ribbon; American Film and Video Festival CINE Golden Eagle Safetalk: Parents and Teachers Discuss AIDS recognizes that parents and teachers are the gatekeepers to our youth. Keeping this in mind, Safetalk gathers experts on HIV infection and human sexuality, persons with AIDS and parents of children with AIDS from across the country to assist parents and teachers with the important task of teaching our youth how to protect themselves against the deadly AIDS virus. Sexual Orientation: Reading Between the Labels focuses on issues facing gay and lesbian youth and is designed to help build respect between individuals of divergent sexual orientation. Ignorance about homosexuality has contributed to a climate of fear, isolation, discrimination and violence toward those perceived as homosexual. Rather than relying solely on testimony from professionals, Sexual Orientation: Reading Between the Labels provides a forum for gay and lesbian teens to speak of their concerns. _This video is powerful, positive, and open in its approach._ -Journal of Sex Education and Therapy, Winter 1993 Gold Award; Corporation for Public Broadcasting Honorble Mention; Central Educational Network (CEN) National Council on Family Relations Association for the Care of Children's Health Media Competition (You might have seen this on National Public Television. Many of NEWIST's videos are picked for National showing. Also some of the teens were from Horizon in Chicago.) Also there is a new video in the making. It is tentatively entitled... Hate, Homophobia and School. The taping took place May 6th, 1995 and will probably be released and show on Wisconsin Public TV sometime next Fall. It will again discuss being a gay or lesbain teen, but also look at the climate in the schools. All the videos are available for purchase ($195) or rental ($50). Rental can apply to purchase if you like a video.
