Carolyn, President, P-FLAG O`ahu, gets another letter published . . . . If the rest of our mothers were half as committed as she, we'ld be "there" already. HONOLULU STAR-BULLETIN P.O. Box 3080 Honolulu, Hawai`i 96802 letters@starbulletin.com September 19, 1997 LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Comedy on gay teacher was no laughing matter Last night my husband and I went to see the movie, "In and Out." It's billed as a comedy but I walked out in tears. I remember Red Skelton saying something about comedy being a sigh away from tragedy. You see, I see nothing funny about teachers or anyone else losing their jobs or being intimidated because of their sexual orientation. I see nothing funny about our military members losing their careers or their lives because of their sexual orientation. This is the way it is in today's world and it has to change. In the movie, there is a piece of black comedy about the military and the audience laughs. The whole equality issue for those whose sexual orientation that does not match society's accepted heterosexuality, causes me great pain. I'm looking forward to the day with I don't have to cry while the audience is laughing. You see, I have a gay son whom I love very much.
