As part of Occidental College's Sixth Annual

VALUING DIVERSITY WEEK:
Creating Intimacy Across Cultures

a panel discussion to address the issue of
marriage for same-gender couples will be
presented on

Thursday, Oct. 24th, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.
Jeffers Room, 2nd Flr. Library, Occidental College

Panelists include Eric Astacaan from the L.A. Gay
& Lesbian Center, Professor Ron Buckmire, and
Rev. Dana Kagal of the Metropolitan Community
Church in Glendale.  In addition, La Tina Jackson and
Valencia McKinley, a lesbian couple, 
will also be present to address the audience.

The panel will discuss the cultural, legal, economic
and social aspects surrounding the prospect of
legalizing marriage for same-gender couples.
The panel will also address the current backlash
with the introduction of various nonrecognition bills
in states around the country, as well as the
gay, lesbian and bisexual communities' response
to this issue.
