Subject: Announcing QueerPolitics E-Mail Discussion List

Announcing the QUEERPOLITICS list!  Operational 10/1/96.  Subscribe Now!

There are three flavors of this mailing list:
        o QUEERPOLITICS (unmoderated mailing list)
        o QUEERPOLITICS-EDIT (moderated mailing list)
        o QUEERPOLITICS-DIGEST (digest form of QUEERPOLITICS-EDIT)

You should be clear about which list you want to subscribe to.
All postings to the QUEERPOLITICS-EDIT list are approved by one of a group of
moderators. After 40K of these postings have accumulated, an issue of
QUEERPOLITICS-DIGEST gets sent out. QUEERPOLITICS is an ancillary list
which is for people who also want to discuss QUEERPOLITICS, but who want the
conversation to be unmoderated.

All postings to QUEERPOLITICS are submitted to QUEERPOLITICS-EDIT and if the
moderator agrees they are sent to that list. All postings to QUEERPOLITICS
are sent directly to QUEERPOLITICS subscribers instantly.
No postings to QUEERPOLITICS-EDIT should be submitted, since everything should
go to the QUEERPOLITICS address.


QUEERPOLITICS is a list devoted to the discussion and analysis of the politics
of the gay rights movement; that is the movement for equal civil rights on the
basis of sexual orientation.

The idea behind the list is to facilitate discussion between people holding
diverse viewpoints about strategies, personalities and policies in the struggle
for gay rights.

The immediate topic of discussion is expected to be the 1996 U.S. presidential,
gubernatorial and congressional elections.

Topics related to same-sex marriage should be posted to the
MARRIAGE@abacus.oxy.edu mailing list. But the *politics* of same-sex marriage
is a fair topic for the QUEERPOLITICS mailing list.

QUEERPOLITICS is not intended to be a U.S.-centric list but will likely
become so. Topics of an international nature should be posted to the
QUEERPLANET@abacus.oxy.edu mailing list.

Topics specifically related to sexual orientation and the law should be posted
to the QUEERLAW mailing list. However, topics about the political implications
of judicial decision and appointments are fair game on QUEERPOLITICS.

QUEERPOLITICS shall be used as a means of getting material for publication in
The Sherrill-Buckmire Report, an online gay and lesbian political newsletter
which is part of PlanetOut, the online gay, lesbian, bi and trans megasite on
the web.

QUEERPOLITICS-EDIT is a *moderated* mailing list. What this means that posts
to the list will be forwarded to a group of moderators and if they obey this
charter and seem to follow the guidelines of the list they will be forwarded to
the subscribers.

The unmoderated version of the list is called QUEERPOLITICS.
