QUEERLAW is a list devoted to discussion, analysis and promulgation of queer
legal theory and all other aspects of sexual orientation and The Law.
The idea behind the list is to facilitate discussion between a diverse number of
assorted groups ranging from law professors and law students to individuals interested in how The Law affects, and is affected by, sexual minorities.

QUEERLAW is intended to be a general (unmoderated) discussion mailing list. 
However it has a specific focus on topics related to *both* sexual orientation
and the law.

If you are interested in a moderated list you should consider
'gaylaw', the mailing list used for the publication of the
National Journal of Sexual Orientation Law.
This is an online legal journal dealing with sexual orientation and the law
edited by Mary Sylla <mmsylla@gibbs.oit.unc.edu>.

The first issue is out and can be obtained at the Queer Resources Directory.
If you do not know what the Queer Resources Diretcory is, send email to
<info@qrd.org> and a FAQ file will be sent to you automatically.

You can also find out how to get a copy of the NJSOL by subscribing to the
gaylaw list. To do that, you should send a message to <listserv@unc.edu>
To subscribe to the list your message should look like
'subscribe gaylaw [FIRST NAME] [LAST NAME]'.

You can also find out about what's in the NJSOL by sending the command
'index gaylaw' to <listserv@unc.edu>.

QUEERLAW is a general discussion list about queer legal issues, gaylaw is a
moderated list used to facilitate production of the online NJSOL. You should
decide what kind of list you are interested in and then act accordingly.

QUEERLAW is maintained by a sophisticated program, called MajorDomo.
Thus most list operations are automated. Gaylaw is maintained by another
(not as sophisticated :-)) program called 'listserv'.

To join the QUEERLAW mailing list send a message to 
MAJORDOMO@abacus.oxy.edu with a one line message
'subscribe queerlaw'.

To leave the list, send the one line message to Majordomo@bacus.oxy.edu
'unsubscribe queerlaw'.

MajorDomo is a computer program. You must send messages directly to the program 
 to get on or off the list. For more info on commands that MajorDomo will 
honor, send the message 'help' to MajorDomo@abacus.oxy.edu.
