Subject: Q-amstdy List

Welcome to the Q-Amstdy list!  

 The Q-Amstdy list serves as a forum for furthering
 the study of sexuality/gender within the American Studies Association.
The Q-Amstdy list serves all communities interested in issues
 of sexuality and/or gender issues.

 The list will serve the community in a variety of ways:
- as a clearinghouse for information (i.e., paper and panel
coordination,
       information regarding calls for papers/panels/presentations, book
       reviews, relevant teaching positions, information on
       scholarships/fellowships/general funding, etc.);
 - as a means of increasing contributions to the Association's
electronic
       and paper resources;
- as a site for community networking and general discourse;
 - as a general touchstone for scholars interested in the field of
       American Studies.

 We welcome thoughtful discussions, and realize that gender/sexuality
 discourse is often heated, strident, and boisterous.  The
 list managers request that the level of discourse reflect the purpose
 of the list (see above). Those wishing to engage in "flame wars" will
 force the list managers to wave their wands and deconstruct
 said person's posting privleges.

 Thank you for your interest in Q-Amstdy, we look forward a great many
 academically productive and provocative discussions.
