What is DykeNet?  DykeNet is a DYKESPACE mailing list.  DykeNet is a
dyke-positive, flame-free, and bigot-free space for wimmin who identify as
DYKES.

DykeNet's purpose is to provide a fun, friendly, and relaxed online
community where we can freely discuss topics relevant to our lives as
dykes -- seriously or humorously, one-lined or epic-length -- in an
atmosphere that is fun, cooperative and supportive.

DykeNet was created as an alternative to other lists where flaming is the
rule, rather than the exception.  DykeNet is an exercise in FLAME-FREE list
relations, intended to provide a space where it is SAFE to post from the
heart without the fear of being harrassed, humiliated, or otherwise
subjected to undue hostility.  It's not perfect, by all means -- but many
feel it is better than the alternatives that currently exist.

Everyone subscribing to DykeNet is asked to do their part to keep DykeNet
peaceful, safe, and supportive.  Discussions on DykeNet must be conducted
in a civil and non-threatening manner.  It's a give-and-take scenario that
takes some tact, diplomacy, compromise, and a LOT of work... and it's not
necessarily everyone's cup of tea.

Membership is open to dykes only -- no exceptions!  For the purpose of this
list, a "dyke" is defined as "Genetic Grrrl" dykes and post-op MTF dykes.
It also includes GG and post-op MTF bi-dykes.  Anyone found to be anything
other than the above will be unsubscribed immediately.

Regarding the inclusion of post-op TS dykes and bi-dykes: This has been the
subject of several rather intense discussions on the list.  While the
opinions of all individuals are respected, DykeNet's inclusion policy is
simply not up for debate.  (Note: TS-specific issues unrelated to our lives
as dykes are inappropriate for discussion on this list, as are discussions
regarding boyfriends or intimate relations with men.)

DykeNet is a PRIVATE and CLOSED list.  Postings to DykeNet are not
hand-approved.  Only subscribers may post to DykeNet.  Subscription
requests are individually approved by Raelani! and Teri, your humble list
moderators, and their decision is final.  Subscription requests from men
will be deleted without comment.
 
Finally: Contributors to DykeNet are expected to be responsible in their
contributions, as outlined above.  Messages consisting primarily of flames,
hostility, harrassment, personal attacks, or which have little or no
relevance to the group or ongoing discussion(s) are inappropriate and may
be grounds for removal from the list.  Individuals who repeatedly bait,
antagonize, or harrass other list member -- publically or in e-mail -- may
also be removed from the list.

If you have any problem at all with any of these policies, we have two
suggestions: 1) Write a note to DYKENET-L-REQUEST@netcom.com, or 2) join or
form a more suitable mailing list.

Still want to subscribe?  Cool!  We regret how stuffy and rule-laden this
info file has become, but it has proven necessary to maintain the purpose
and integrity of DykeNet.  Trust us, the list is basically a supportive and
fun place to be!  Like any other small community, DykeNet is not without
flaws -- but it's better than most (in our humble and admittedly biased
opinion).
