Local radio (Albany) station WROW afternoon talk program (The Jaimme and Joe Show) provided 3 hours (3 to 6pm) of talk and call-in on this issue. Both co-host shared their dismay at such a policy and by-far most callers air their similar feelings. I was one of the "many" callers, at which time noted the anti-gay and racist remarks in the 1997 Mechanicville HS year book...John ===================================================================== Schenectady, NY Daily Gazette 5/11/00 Policy on prom at issue Mechanicville board to discuss ban on mixed-gender dates By JEREMY BOYER Gazette Reporter ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- MECHANICVILLE - The president of the Mechanicville school board said he plans to have the entire board discuss possible changes to a policy that restricts attendance at the senior prom to mixed-gender couples. The practice, which the board says is not an official policy, will be re-worded at a meeting Thursday, five days after tonight's prom. "It's not a policy, even I had misquoted it. It is a practice," said board President Joseph Waldron. "Our policy would never forbid that kind of attendance; that would be illegal. Our past practice has been to allow couples only."
