He stated that due to efforts to get a NYS budget approved the Albany and NYC public hearings have not been scheduled. The following article denotes a number of meetings that some task force members and the Lt. Governor had with students in the capital region. The article does not mention meetings at Ballston Spa HS or the Troy YMCA. These impromtu meetings are not, in my opinion, considered public hearings. My concern with these impromtu meetings with students is that GLBT harassment and abuse will not likely be expressed by students and the task force is not likely to ask such questions. Hence, a major element of school violence is passed over at these meetings. Breaking the silence has always been a major obstacle regarding this issue. Another concern, will these impromtu meetings preclude a public hearing in Albany?
