Emergency appeal (forwarded message) This special appeal is being sent because Deborah and Helen are making a ground-breaking, culture-changing film to PREVENT homophobia in ELEMENTARY-age school children!!! NOTE: The amount needed to finish the project is $50,000, not the much lower amount indicated in the original message. According to Deb Chasnoff, ..."we need $50,000 to finish the documentary, then more to do the kids videos. So, a correction would be lovely. Thanks - Chas. ---begin forwarded message--- Hello to all, Help, and money are needed to help finish a very important film that will help fight homophobia......... Here is the story. I invite you to become a supporter of a significant new documentary, "Don't look the Other Way" produced by Debra Chasnoff and Helen Cohen. As you may know, Chas is the Bay Area filmmaker whose documentary "Deadly Deception" won an Oscar in 1992. Her new project focuses on preventing homophobia among elementary school-age children. This documentary is aimed at parents and teachers and it makes a compelling case that children should be taught to respect all people, including lesbians and gay men, as part of their early education. At its heart is incredibly moving footage of elementary and middle school classrooms where teachers are finding creative ways to confront anti-lesbian and gay prejudice and counter lesbian and gay invisibility. The need for money to finish the project is $50,000.00. This is needed ASAP to ensure that the filmmakers are able to finish all the shooting they need to do by the end of the school year, in June. The producers, Chas and Helen, have been turned down for grants because of the subject, even though Chas won an Oscar for her work in 1992... A sad state.... people are afraid of the "right", afraid to have their name or money associated with this documentary. The only way these brave filmmakers can finish this work is if "WE", their community and the supporters of the lesbian and gay community, help to finish it. I just saw a segment of this film and it is totally outstanding. As little as $10.00, or whatever you can afford, would help!
