Date: Mon, 13 Feb 1995 22:06:06 -0800 From: pastures@ix.netcom.com (Gene Barnes) Subject: "After All" Newsletter To: QRD@vector.casti.com We have begun a newsletter for those that have lost or are losing a loved one to AIDS. The name of the newsletter is "After All." Our Premier issue was mailed in January and uploaded to an FTP site: family.hampshire.edu dir /pub/aids/AfterAll as well as to the CyberSurvive online HIV/AIDS BB. The "electronic" editions were created with Adobe Acrobat and include the Adobe Reader for viewing the newsletter. It also includes a readme.txt file to explain how to download and use the files (the readme.txt file follows this message). If you would be interested in carrying this newsletter at your FTP site, please let me know how/where to upload the files. The March issue will be ready for upload on or about 03/05. The Premier issue and files are currently available for upload. README.TXT = Welcome to "After All." We hope that the distribution of our newsletter in electronic format in addition to our postal mailings will allow a greater number of individuals to become active in our activities without incurring an astronomical printing and mailing deficit -- our costs are high enough! Each month (as of March 1995) our newsletter will be uploaded in electronic format using Adobe Acrobat. In order to retrieve/view the newsletter you will need: A .pdf (portable document file) created by Adobe Acrobat. The .pdf file will include the full text, graphics and color. You may view and manipulate it on screen and/or print it out. The .pdf files are compressed into self-extracting .zip files. The .pdf versions will be named month/year.exe. Even though the files are in a self-extracting ZIP format, they are quite large due to the content. If downloading is prohibitive due to costs incurred due to OnLine connect charges . . . consider being added to our mailing list for postal delivery. E-Mail your postal address to: pastures@ix.netcom.com for that service. The Premier Issue will be uploaded as premier.pdf. The March Issue will be mar95.pdf. The April issue will be apr95.pdf . . . etc. (As of March, each issue will be 12 pages). The .pdf files can be read on-screen, manipulated and printed. If you click on the third button from the left on the toolbar in the Adobe Reader (see below), the Adobe Reader will show "thumbnails" of each page on the left of the page layout. Clicking on the "thumbnail" will take you directly to the page you select where you can enlarge specific sections for greater reading ability on-screen -- or print out the entire document. In order to view the .pdf file, you will need to use the Adobe Reader. There is no charge for the reader and it is available in this section as reader.exe You will only need to download this file once then install it on your system. The reader will allow you to view all future .pdf files of "After All." You will only need to download this file once and install it on your system for future use. It must be run under Windows 3.1 or higher. There is an Adobe Reader also available for MAC systems. The reader.exe file will give you a program called acroread.exe which will install the Acrobat Reader on your system. If you already have the Adobe Reader installed on your system, you can skip this step. The Adobe Reader is free and can be distributed freely as dictated by Adobe Systems, Inc. If you have any comments or questions, please contact the coordinator of "After All" -- Gene Barnes at: pastures@ix.netcom.com Let me know if you download these files and if you have any problems. As always, we look forward to your comments and involvement. Feel free to distribute copies of the Newsletter to those you feel would benefit from it. Please site the source as being "After All" if you wish to reprint all/parts of the newsletter as well as give credit to the individual authors. We would like to hear from you if you have ideas or articles for future editions. Any articles you submit will include your name in the by-line. If you know of people that do not have computer access but would like a printed copy by US Mail, they may request a printed copy by writing to: "After All" 3870 Crenshaw Blvd. , Suite #371 Los Angeles, CA 90008 Thank you, Gene Barnes Coordinator "After All" Foundation --- Thanks for your attention! -- ********************************************* Gene Barnes - Pi - "After All" "My visit has ended but my journey continues" *********************************************
